Employee Spotlight: Isaiah & Lucy

As an organization that provides growth opportunities for children, adults, and families, we don’t always get to see the long-term results of our work. There are other times when we get an upfront view of our programs’ positive impacts on people we’ve supported. RISE Services, Inc. Utah would like to share a beautiful story of how two individuals went from being participants in our programs to amazing employees years later.

Meet Isaiah & Lucy

In 2011, Isaiah and his brother moved into one of our professional parent homes. Isaiah was only eight, and his professional parents’ daughter, Lucy, was five. At that time, Isaiah’s brother attended one of RISE Services, Inc. Utah’s summer programs, but Isaiah was not originally scheduled to attend. Thankfully, he was quickly added to the summer program to experience the same opportunity as his brother.

Isaiah enjoyed the summer program and was glad he could participate in several other activities. He met new people and made some friends at these events. Lucy and her family were also invited to many of the same functions, including end-of-summer parties, Christmas events, and other fun festivities.

Isaiah & Lucy Now

Fast forward to 2023. While attending college, Isaiah applied for a job working with RISE Services, Inc. Utah at the same summer program he attended years ago. He was excited to work with other children with similar circumstances and help them have an exciting and unforgettable summer program experience.

Isaiah quickly became a hit with the kids he worked with, including their families and the staff. He enjoyed it so much that he recommended that his foster sister, Lucy, work in the summer program, too. They were especially grateful to work alongside each other and continue to work at the Orem Day program once summer had ended.

Strengthening Families

Lucy and Isaiah are especially thankful for their valuable time together, bringing healing for each of them and strengthening their bond, which has grown since 2011. Lucy has finished taking her general education classes at UVU and hopes to continue in Social Work or Education.
