Navigating Life After High School: Resources for Adults With IDD
The transition from attending school to adulthood is a pivotal time for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. At RISE Services, Inc. Utah, we know this period comes with unique challenges but also exciting opportunities for growth, independence, and community involvement. That’s why we support adults with IDD at our Opportunity Centers across the state of Utah. Here are some of the helpful services we offer when it’s time to transition from school to adult programs.
Community Engagement and Independent Living
Staying connected matters at every age. After graduation, your loved one can continue building community through one of our Opportunity Centers. We offer programs from Monday through Friday each week. This is a great way to stay connected with other people while building independent living skills.
Individuals can participate in:
- Life skills training for managing day-to-day responsibilities, like cooking and grocery shopping.
- Computer skills training in our computer center.
- Practicing independent skills through mock apartment living.
- Physical activity in our exercise/fitness rooms to better understand healthy lifestyles.
Finding Employment and Gaining Work Skills
Transitioning from attending school to adulthood is an exciting time. Meaningful employment is a cornerstone of this stage of life, offering individuals a sense of purpose and connection to their community.
Many adults with IDD can thrive in the workplace with the right supports and preparation. RISE Services, Inc. Utah is here to help new adults with this transition.
Our Employment Services include:
- Job coaching to help identify job roles suited to abilities and preferences.
- Supporting individuals as they build work skills through job-based training.
